Temperature controlled facilities at Lufthansa Cargo's Pharma Hub
Lufthansa Cargo serves as a key carrier for Röhlig Logistics customers, and their Pharma Hub is a major asset for pharmaceutical industry customers focused on the safety of their temperature-controlled cargo.
Together with the Röhlig Logistics team, our customer braved the varied cold-storage options available at the Pharma Hub.
The 15-25°C section of the warehouse comprises approximately 70% of the facility. The remaining sections included a 2-8°C temperature range which can store products such as vaccines. Additionally, the coldest part of the Pharma Hub can reach temperatures as low as -20°C, ideal for maintaining frozen pharmaceutical goods and diagnostics.
Specialised equipment for healthcare shipments
The Pharma Hub was also equipped with a wide range of packaging and transport solutions, from thermal blankets to Envirotainers – a specialised air freight container for temperature control.
When organising shipments for our pharmaceutical customers, Röhlig Logistics can assess the packaging, palletising and transport options available to ensure that the goods maintain the required temperature with the most cost-effective solution.
Next, the tour demonstrated how the Pharma Hub avoids critical temperature excursions that can compromise pharmaceutical products. Our Röhlig Logistics experts and customer were introduced to the numerous safety features of the warehouse, including redundant cooling systems and temperature alarms that sound if the surroundings become too warm. This allows swift action to be taken in unlikely event of a temperature excursion.
Optimising our pharmaceutical customer's healthcare supply chain
To prioritise our customer’s needs, we discussed plans to reduce the risk of passive cooling while their healthare air freight shipments are on the tarmac. This tour was an opportunity for us to work face-to-face with our customer and the Lufthansa Cargo Pharma Hub staff on solutions including thermal blankets, thermal cargo dollies and a reefer container for short-storage on the tarmac.
After the tour, our customer had an even greater understanding and assurance of the solutions and resources available to Röhlig Logistics at the Lufthansa Cargo Pharma Hub.
After a warming dinner together with our team in back in Hamburg, they also reflected on the investment in temperature-control technology made by the Pharma Hub. The Röhlig Logistics team also maintain confidence in our carriers to prioritise a personalised and tailored service for our temperature-control customers.
We would like to thank both our customer and Lufthansa Cargo for such a productive exchange and for sharing this insightful tour experience with the wider network.
