Brown Marmorated Stink Bug (BMSB) Season 2024/2025
New Zealand MPI confirmed on 06/08/2024 that there is NO major changes on Brown Marmorated Stink Bug (BMSB) measures for this 2024/2025 season from the previous season.
BMSB Season applies to all sea containers and their target-high risk cargo departing from several countries on or after September 1, 2024 and arriving in NZ territory on or before April 30, 2025.
MPI requirements are detailed in two Import Health Standards (IHS);
‘Sea Containers from All Countries’ (SEACO) -describes BMSB requirements for all sea containers from Italy only.
- Some cargo sensitive to BMSB treatment from Italy may not require treatment with MPI prior approval.
Vehicles, Machinery and Parts’ (VMP)–describes BMSB requirements for VMP goods from 38 high risk (‘Schedule 3’) countries.
- Mandatory offshore treatment is required for target-risk goods without a new goods Manufacturer's declaration.
- The Specific Commodity Exclusions are listed as clause 5.3.1 (3) and Part B of VMP IHS.
- Cargo must be treated as per MPI treatment standards and be performed by an approved offshore treatment provider.
