13th September 2023 - At Röhlig Logistics, caring for people is central to what we do, not just for our team members, but also for the communities in which we operate. Our Röhlig Charity Programme aims to give back to those in need. When Röhlig UK had the opportunity to make a real difference thanks to the 2023 Röhlig Charity Project, the UK team were excited to help. After an employee vote, we are delighted to announce our new partnership with Acorns Children's Hospice! We are proud to support Acorns so we can be stronger together for local children and families.
About Acorns Children's Hospice
A parent never imagines their child will be diagnosed with a life limiting or life threatening condition. But when the unimaginable happens, Acorns steps in, helping families cope at every stage of their child’s life and beyond, wherever and whenever they need it.
Acorns dedicated teams provide specialist palliative care for children and young people from its three hospices, based in Worcester, Birmingham and Walsall, and in the community.
The charity is proud to have cared for over 700 children in the past year, and supported almost 1,000 families, including those who are bereaved.
Acorns needs £27,000 each day to provide its lifeline care and support services and relies on donations and fundraising by the community for over 60% of this amount.
“We’re thrilled to join forces with Röhlig Logistics for this exciting new partnership. Thank you to everyone who voted for Acorns – it really does mean a lot to us. Only with the help of businesses like Röhlig Logistics can we make every day count for families caring for children with life limiting and life-threatening conditions. It’s a wonderful example of how we are stronger together. – Abi Coulson, Senior Partnerships Fundraising Manager for Acorns Children’s Hospice.

The Hand-Over
On 23 August 2023, Röhlig representatives presented the donation at the Acorns Worcester Hospice. Röhlig's Regional CEO - North Europe, Gary Pryke, and Regional Marketing Executive - North Europe, Rory Pickin, received a warm welcome from Abigail Coulson, Acorns’ Senior Partnerships Fundraising Manager.
Gary and Rory were then given an in-depth tour of the hospice and all it has to offer. They were shown some of the amazing spaces children and families enjoy, such as the music room, where the children can express themselves through the various instruments, the sensory room, full of different lights and textures, and the hydrotherapy pool for water-based therapy and family fun.
Other special spaces included the adolescent lounge with games consoles every teenager enjoys and the family flats, which enable families to stay at the hospice along with their child.
They even toured the beautiful gardens where the children can play outside with their families in a safe environment, that is also home to a delightful vegetable patch, in which children and their siblings grow their own fruit and vegetables to take home.
They were also shown some of the specialist equipment that supports Acorns dedicated palliative nurses to provide care for children with complex medical conditions when visiting the hospice.
The visit was truly eye-opening and gave a large insight into all the ways Acorns makes a positive impact for these remarkable children and their families.
"Witnessing first-hand the outstanding care and support they provide was truly humbling. We are honoured to stand alongside Acorns in their mission and are proud to support the charity so we can be stronger together for local families. It is wonderful to see the difference our donation will make to such a great cause." – Gary Pryke, CEO of North Europe
We remain dedicated to creating positive change in our communities. Through partnerships like this, we uphold our commitment to improving life for those most in need.
