18 January 2022 - Customers in China will now be able to take advantage of project logistics services offered by Chongqing Röhlig Logistics Co Ltd. From January 1st 2022, this specialised entity is also set to handle the country’s growing contract logistics business. The move will not only help to streamline our project and contract logistics resources in China, but will also put in place a thriving logistics gateway close to the nation’s ‘Silk Road’ trade route.
Situated in the heart of the developing region of Western China, our existing offices in Chengdu and Chongqing are readily equipped for a seamless transition for all customer’s business.
Case study: High value project logistics in Sichuan
Recently, our local teams were able to showcase their expertise via a complex project logistics solution in Sichuan province. Our customer needed to transport 4 x 96 ‘FR containers arriving from Switzerland at the Port of Chongqing to their door in Chengdu. Within these four containers were 10 cases, the largest of which weighed more than 26 tons and measured 696 x 380 x 392cm, classing it as overweight and oversize in terms of cargo handling. This factor combined with the cargo being a high-precision instrument valued at nearly CNY 20 million meant that the project required specialised equipment and expert planning.
Handling oversize cargo with care
With shock indicators on the containers leaving no room for error, our local team prioritised the use of cranes and air-cushioned vehicles to ensure careful handling and safe delivery. The team were able to quickly coordinate the containers to be lifted onto trucks on arrival at the port in Chongqing before being transported by road to Chengdu.
Delivery to door using specialised vehicles
A separate consideration was the transfer to a smaller truck in order to enter the customer’s factory. Again, our team was able to organise this transfer on behalf of the customer as part of our tailor-made solution, and the containers were delivered to our customer’s factory floor within 1 day of their arrival at Chongqing.
